Adult Psychiatric Program

Adult Psychiatric Program

Summit Oaks Hospital provides a safe environment on a 28-bed unit for those who are experiencing acute behavioral health symptoms and are in need of comprehensive evaluation, crisis intervention and stabilization.

Mental health issues that we treat include:

  • Depressive disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Bipolar disorders
  • Most Axis II disorders
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Schizoaffective disorder
  • Schizophrenia and other psychosis

Inpatient treatment is provided by a clinically sound team led by a psychiatrist. Behavior and medication are closely monitored. Patients learn to identify and understand their mental illness, and are taught how to safely manage psychiatric symptoms. Additional treatment modalities include pet therapy, art therapy, yoga therapy and other recreational therapies.

Although discouraged, smoking is permitted for those patients who are over the age of 18, are nicotine dependent and will experience withdrawal effects that will interfere with their treatment. A smoking cessation program is provided for those patients who wish to stop smoking. Patients are strongly encouraged to participate in this program. Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas. A fresh air break schedule is posted at the Nurses Station. Patients must supply their own cigarettes.
